Fleet Phospho-soda Lawsuits
Is Fleet Phospho-soda a Dangerous Drug?
Studies show an increased risk of acute kidney failure in people who use a double dose of Phospho-soda as a bowel-cleansing regimen before a colonoscopy.
Before a colonoscopy, doctors recommend that patients undergo a bowel-cleansing regimen by using some form of strong laxative. One common type of bowel-cleansing medication is an oral sodium phosphate solution, or OSPS.
C.B. Fleet, Co., Inc. is the maker of Phospho-soda and since the early 1990s the company has marketed the product in a double-dose format as a bowel cleanser prior to a colonoscopy.
Sadly, using Phospho-soda in a double dose as a bowel cleanser has been linked to a serious form of kidney failure called acute phosphate nephropathy (APN) or nephrocalcinosis. APN can lead to death, chronic kidney disease, life-altering kidney dialysis treatments or kidney transplant surgery.
Use of oral sodium phosphate products like Fleet Phospho-soda has also been linked to serious electrolyte disorders such as hypocalcaemia, hypernatremia, hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, metabolic acidosis, dehydration and tetany.
Financial Compensation May Be Possible
Have you or a family member developed kidney failure or chronic kidney problems after using Fleet Phospho-soda or another OSPS - like Fleet Accu-Prep, Fleet EZ Prep, OsmoPrep tablets, Visicol tablets, Wal-Phosphate or CVS brand bowel cleansers? Did you take one of these products prior to a colonoscopy, radiological procedure or colon-rectal surgery?
If so, consult a defective drugs lawyer. You may be entitled to financial compensation from the company that makes and advertises these products as a safe bowel-cleansing regimen.
